The Ottawa Citizen weighs in on the debate!

Tag: Lawrence Cannon, MediaRobert Lamb @ 3:13 pm

Check this article out by Pamela Eadie, The Ottawa Citizen.

(note: please see our post of February 5th, the Ottawa Citizen and Driving.ca got together and deleted the article from their internet sites… but we found it!… very poor integrity for a newspaper!!)

To bad she didn’t do her homework!

  • Check out this quote in the article from an Ottawa dealer: “Dilawri, dealer for Kanata Mazda and Ottawa Honda.”We’ve gone online and looked at what American cars are selling for compared with here. There’s not a significant difference.”"

  • Wonder what his definition of “significant” is.  Wonder if he comes from the same school as the “inconvenience” chap that handles PR for Transport Canada!

Check out the comments from the Average Hard working Canadians

Cross-border car buying now being done by dealers

2008-01-31praetautomotive.pdf

We can see that The author is using our site for some of his research, and see that he is really trying to push the “Fair Pricing Issue” .   But he is really missing the point in a few cases  and we are surprised this article was accepted by his editor as is:

  1. He should back up his quotes with real numbers from the RIV, how many Canadians are importing cars themselves versus dealerships?   No one really knows!
  2. The RIV and Transport Canada continue to frustrate the average Canadian citizen, attempting to make the process complicated and frustrating when it really isn’t .   They are pushing the individual’s right into the hands of these dealers. Further more if you are a big dealer we understand that the RIV and TC  gives you better and preferential treatment!
  3. So now the The Canadian Consumer will be “gouged” by these  dealers - refer to this quote ”

“We see a real opportunity in 2008,” Mr. Priestner told investors at the RBC Capital Markets income-trust investor symposium last week. “There will be good margins on those” vehicles. The upside is so large that AutoCanada said it hired someone full-time to scour the U.S. market for product.

  4. Finally, I don’t think it is appropriate to call Hard working Canadian citizens that avoid brokers and do it themseves as ” Joe Blow” ,  first of all it is insulting, and second of all he degrades himself and his newspaper by using this type of language.   We thought he had more class!!

Co-founder of CWB, Bob Lamb was on the radio show with Zack Spencer.   This was a very good 1 hour show that discussed the history of the immobilizers issues,  how the RIV operates and how the RIV lists are updated.  Bob explained the political action that was done by everyone involved and how CarsWithoutBorders was the Enabler.

The show brought over 1,200 visits to our site from all across Canada and over 50 people signed our electronic petition which will be presented to the government.

Please continue supporting the site and telling your friends and family to sign our petition for fair car pricing and visit the forum.

Tag: Consumers, Media, Toyota / Lexussergelbergeron @ 8:31 am

Cornwall Toyota admits in local paper ad that they are shopping in the USA for used cars.  Very good for their customers and for them.   Why not go all the way with fair pricing on all cars in Canada?   Any comments anyone?
