Several months ago, in addition to Transport Canada, we wrote to both Industry and Revenue Canada concerning Fair Automobile Pricing for Canadians. We encouraged our members to do so as well. Both departments have been very slow to repond, yet we can see from some of the announcements last week that the Government is starting to move in our direction.
One of our members, also wrote a very good letter concerning the Trade and Tax avoidance issue that is still not being addressed. He has yet to receive a reply!

Besides the updates related to the new Bumper harmonization, the new 2008-07-04 RIV list now shows that the letter of admissibility from the manufacturer is no longer required to import Mercedes, BMW and Volvo.

Next we need to go after Recall letters and a whole bunch of issues being brought to bear… we would like your ideas on the next priority..
We talked to a the RIV this morning, concerning the status of the revised RIV listing as a result of the changes to the new bumper regulations.
The new listing should be out by the end of the week. Seems that the folks at Transport Canada really want to do a thorough venting. It appears that we can even expect to see new manufacturers added as well.
We have been told that all vehicles in the backlog, that were held up due to the bumper issue, are being released.

Finally, The ammendments to section 215 of Schedule IV of the Motor Safety Regulation concerning Bumpers have been passed into law!
- This has the effect of aligning the test speeds of the Canadian bumper safety standard with those of Europe and the United States and provides manufacturers the option of meeting the European safety requirements or the safety and no damage provisions of the United States. As a result of this amendment, there is one consistent set of globally regulated test speeds for the design of bumpers,

We have been told today that Transport Canada is working on a new list that should be available within the next couple of days. It look like 30 cars are now admissible…
