Thank you Lynne Robson from CBC - Montreal for this fine report and showing Canadians that there are some deals to be made if you look south.
Some of other thoughts on the report, and they are consistent with the many emails we received… are as follows:
The coverage on CarsWithoutBorders, although very limited, was good and we received hundreds of calls and emails…
The main message got out….. the Canadian Automobile Consumer needs to be careful when purchasing a car. Not all car companies are pricing their products fairly and they will walk all over them.!
The coverage on “RickY” the broker left us confused. He appears to scare people into going to him to buy a car. “Taking several months to prepare a RAV4 or a car for import????? , complicated rules…. they are not that complicated….but they are not simple either. Don’t do it yourself.. call me!
I am not happy with Peter Mansbridge stating that most purchases are for used cars, but then he fails to state why…. Because the U.S. dealers refuse to sell new cars to Canadians for fear of their franchise…..possible Collusion and discrimination!!!!!
I think the CBC lost a good chance to identify the issues, who is behind them and why Canadians are being treated like second class citizens… but then again I guess we should be happy that they are at least bringing up the subject…. The other media doesn’t say a word, and is too scared to lose their advertising revenue rather than informing hard working Canadians. (we hear that the words CWB are banned at the Montreal Gazette… )
We would like to hear more from our members and supporters … what is your spin on the coverage?
Thanks..

Thanks for the heads up - It is nice to see the CBC who is at least giving consumers some valid information.

OK, so the CBC aired this very distorted “little sound bite about importing cars from the US. The “Importer” got his advertising in quite nicely and scared the pants off anybody that was thinking of bringing a car in from the US !!! He was lying when he said how complicated the process was !!! The actual process is easy, what is crazy is that “Foreign’ car manufacturers can dictate to Canadians to pay them EXTORTIONATE sums for a letter of outstanding recalls, eg BMW !!! The sad part is that our government does nothing to change this crooked business, on the contrary they help agencies like RIV, a PRIVATE company,to make importing for Canadians harder. The television stations definitely don’t want to say too much, they are afraid to possibly loose “Revenue” dollars in advertising. I have written all kinds of letters to CBC and CTV, outlining my problems with BMW and RIV. NO REPLIES !!! Our local MP, John Weston, after a lot of providing “evidence”on my part, said ” He could not interfere with private business” !!! MP John Baird replied with a long letter that makes NO sense at all !!! I guess I’ll have to “give in” to BMW’s EXTORSION and pay them $500.00 for the letter and $$$$ ???? for what ever else they deem fit to charge me for. I’ve also sent two letters to MP Jack Layton’s office outlining this problem,… NO reply. ???
From what I read, Volvo is even more of a Villain…………. Why do we even buy these vehicles ????? Hope some day this will come to an end !!!! …Change of Government !!!!!!

Update to Class Action Lawsuit Against BMW and Mercedes-Benz
If you have imported a BMW or Mercedes-Benz vehicle from the United States into Canada and have had to pay fees for letters of admissibility, recall clearance and/or BMW and Mercedes-Benz mandated modifications, this update may affect you:
—————————-
The Honourable Mr. Justice Sproat, Administrative Judge for Class Proceedings in Central West Region, Ontario Superior Court of Justice, has appointed a case management judge in the proceeding. The parties are moving towards the certification hearing, which will determine whether the proceeding can continue as a class action. The claim is being put forward to represent all persons in all provinces and territories in Canada who have incurred losses as a result of the alleged conduct.”
Good luck!
