Government catering to big business starts to cost Lives!
Our Canadian Government continues to put big international business ahead of the Canadian consumer and our safety.
As in most things that happen these days our Govt has been slow to react to “do not call lists” or systems that prevent Telemarketers from bothering and pestering consumers.
The lobbyist fraternity in Ottawa made sure that the Goverment reacted quite slowly with a program that quite frankly leaves much to be desired. The American program was introduced years in advance and we are told it is quite significant.
Now our govt has gone another step futher in proving that it does not cater to Canadians. Close to 10 years ago the U.S. introduced legislation to ensure that 911 emergency calls could be traced over the wireless network. Millions of dollars were spent by the Telcos to upgrade equipment in order to be able to trace the location of emergency 911 calls.
What did Canada do….. nothing. The Telco Lobbyists in Ottawa, made sure that our Govt put any such plans to do the same on the back burner.
This lack of action on our Govt’s part is now costing Canadian lives.
This would not have happened in the U.S.
Why does our government continue to be so backwards? When it comes to , do not call lists, personal 911 safety, proper helicopters and equipment for our troops in Afganistan , Automobile safety ( Tire Pressure Monitoring systems save lives) why is our govt always so slow to react?
Our Govt always seems to put big business, with all their well paid lobbyists in Ottawa over the safety of Canadian citizens.
Our Govt. needs better leaders. Our Govt. needs to rid themselves of catering to lobbyists over the well being of it’s citizens.

Government is slow to react because it has no one to compete against. The free market is the most efficient way to spontaneously organize an economy. You might ask why are telephone companies not adopting good solutions for their customers in Canada when they are forced to in the US. The answer is likely because the telephone companies take advantage of government to create competition- and innovation-free markets. The same thing is true of the automotive industry, the government only serves to restrict competition and render innovation completely void.
The government isn’t for the people, when was the last time your member of parliament asked you what you think, they only serve special interests groups, they talk all the time. Our government doesn’t need to rid themselves of anything, we need to rid ourselves of government.
