Lack of Transparency, “a way of life in Canada!”
Now Industry Canada and the Canadian Govenment are trying to operate in a hidden, sneaky, and undisclosing manner. The Canadian version of the auto “Bailout plans” should be public. The U.S. plans were made public last week. What is wrong with the way we operate our country!
refer to the article below.
Quote: The Canadian arms of General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC have all so far declined to release their business plans submitted to the Ontario and federal governments as a condition for parallel aid being considered here. The companies are seeking roughly $6-billion.
A spokesman for Federal Industry Minister Tony Clement says the department is “not planning on releasing copies of the big 3 bail out plans” it received.
Just as Transport Canada failed to disclose the positions of the Canadian Car Manufacturers last year during the “public consultations” concerning the immobilizer law, so goes the rest of this Government.
Our Country is run by the big multinational companies…. maybe it should change soon!

Auto aid proposals kept secret

Detroit’s three ailing automakers, seeking US$34-billion in emergency aid from the U.S. government to avoid collapse, all made public their viability plans submitted to Washington last week. The House of Representatives’ Committee on Financial Services then posted the plans on its website.
But in Canada it seems secrecy is ruling the day.
The Canadian arms of General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC have all so far declined to release their business plans submitted to the Ontario and federal governments as a condition for parallel aid being considered here. The companies are seeking roughly $6-billion.
A spokesman for Federal Industry Minister Tony Clement says the department is “not planning on releasing the copies of the plans” it received. A senior vice-president with GM says it has no problem with releasing the information but wants Industry’s consent before it does so. Michael Bryant, Ontario’s economic development minister, said in question period Monday that if the companies don’t disclose their submissions, he will, according to an aid who spoke with the National Post.
The Canadian companies are all private businesses. Their parents are public, except Chrysler, which is majority owned by Cerberus Capital Management.
