RIV Issues September Importation Number -17788
The RIV, this morning, reported 17,788 vehicles were imported in September. This is down 4.7 % from the previous month, but up over 19% from 2007.
YTD 210, 319 vehicles have been imported from the U.S. compared to 111,793 at this time last year. This represents an increase of 88%.
Figures to determine individual versus commercial importations were not available at this time.
In summary CWB estimates that smart hard working Canadians are still shopping for their Vehicles in the U.S. Despite a drop off in the Canadian dollar it appears that the price “gouge” by Canadian Car Companies is still significant.
With the current economic fallout in the U.S. predicated to hit Canada to some degree and our falling oil-based dollar, we forecast that upcoming months will not exceed the highs we experienced last year when our dollar hovered over par, but smart Canadian shoppers will continue to save.
