Booth - “Rumours of Auto Industry death Greatly Exaggerated”
CanWest Automobile writer David Booth “chirped” in today with an article concerning rumours of Auto Industry’s death being exagggerated.
We have to conclude his opening statement is correct, but we are not really sure what he is trying to say. Yes we believe, with our Government’s help that GM, Ford and Chrysler will re-invent themselves… maybe as one company. Yes Toyota and Honda will continue to introduce new economical solutions and stay ahead of the curve.
He concludes with “as those who follow automotive technology know, is that hybrids offer virtually no fuel economy advantage over a similarly sized gas-powered vehicle at highway speeds.”
Well we have trouble with that statement. We could be wrong but, the other day Serge and I travelled, in a Prius, from Cornwall to Plattsburg and back on 3.2 US Gallons of gas. We did over 170 miles, around 160 highway and 10 in the city giving around 52 miles per U.S. Gallon.
Serge just returned from Three Rivers last night and told me he got 62 miles per Canadian Gallon. You can check out the other stories at http://priuschat.com/
While we understand that the Prius really saves on city driving (Cabbies should go for it), we are not sure Mr. Booth is correct. There are still seems to be savings at highway speeds.
Any of our members have other points to bring up here?
