La Presse doesn’t listen to the CAA!

Tag: Consumers, MediaRobert Lamb @ 6:22 am

Great articles this week-end in La Presse.  Writer Francis Vailles tells it like it is and saves over $3500 on a 2008 Camry.   M. Vailles proves to the Canadian Public, that the “Gap” still exists and it is relatively easy to do it yourself!

Found! The Missing VAFUS!

Tag: Lawrence CannonRobert Lamb @ 5:41 am

Thanks to one of our supporters we located the VAFUS list that was dated 2008-04-04 and posted on 2008-04-09 or 10.  The differences found appear to be on Ferrari, Landrover, Section 5- Travel Van Conversion,  Section 6.diff2008-03-18and2008-04-04.pdf

It appears the folks at Transport Canada have more than one group or department trying to update the one document.  Sounds like a good business practice!

CAA misinforms members! cannot buy NEW car in US???

Tag: Consumerssergelbergeron @ 2:18 pm

One of our members recently told us about CAA’s web site which tells its members that they cannot buy NEW cars in the US and proceed to tell them why.

See how poorly CAA is informing or should we say how they were misinforming their members about importing a motor vehicle into Canada.  One would expect CAA to do better given the membership fees paid every year by Canadians and accordingly the resources that should be at their disposal.  One of our members prepared a write-up to correct their mistakes.

Thanks Mr. Cannon - Now please “Just do IT!”

”This proposed amendment would offer more choice to Canadians who wish to import vehicles,” said Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. “At the same time, it would help to maintain the safety of Canadian roads.”

Cannon is quoted in the Globe and Mail April 10th.  We are all glad to hear this, but why wait till the end of spring. Pass the law on April 22nd, please.

We wonder if our constant e-mails and petitions had anything to do with this.

Now let’s change the “self-certification” rule!

2008-04-10globebumpers.pdf

Even more surprising is David Adams, “”The fewer the barriers you have in cross-border movement of vehicles, the greater the pressure will be to ensure that product offerings in Canada are competitive,” said David Adams, president of AIAMC, the trade group that represents most non-North American-based auto makers in Canada.”

This guy represents Honda, Toyota,BMW etc… wonder what he has to say about preventing US dealers from selling to Canadians!

A Heads-up to our members and supporters!

Tag: ConsumersRobert Lamb @ 4:03 pm

Please carefully read through this story recently published by Neil Macdonald - “Indebted America Keeps packing on the plastic”.

Quote:

“Eight thousand American households are sliding into foreclosure every day. An estimated 1.2 million families now face losing their homes.”   Unquote.

Another Quote:

“Rheingold, who correctly predicted the subprime fiasco even before it began, has another prediction today: That Americans will start defaulting on credit card debt, too. And probably auto loans as well, which account for another $1 trillion or so of consumer debt.”   Unquote.

The message is clear, if you are about to buy a car hold off for 6 months.  Wait to you see all the car lots bulked up with inventory.   We don’t think the US dealers will hesitate to sell  to Canadians, and well lower than MRSP.
