Reg 215 Bumpers - an update.

Tag: Lawrence Cannon, Reg 215 BumpersRobert Lamb @ 1:15 pm

bumper.jpgMatthew Coons  at Transport Canada was kind enough to return our call regarding the “eventual?” implementation of the new amendment to regulation 215.  - As we reported last month the consultation period was closed off on April 22nd.

Quote: “as expected many comments were received”  “if the law is changed then the time-frame will be mid to late summer”  end of quote.

Note: As we all know for some strange reason, on a public consultation such as this, Transport Canada  can not divulge any information.   This process needs to have more transparency, but this is another battle.

Mario’s car is still in his garage.  Why can’t they deal with this like the immobilizer change? ( done in 4 days after the close of consultations).  Cannon has already reported that the law will be changed?

So folks, what do you think we should do…….wait?

Serge and I would like to hear from you!

Why should the consultations be kept secret? It would be very interesting if all the letters that were mailed in were made public, as we would quickly learn who the enemies of free trade and liberty are. When does the consultation period end?

  2. Rob says:

My question is - what public are they consulting with? I imagine that the auto makers are none too happy with this happening - think of the profit that they will lose - 5 billion a year in overcharging us Canadians, mainly due to their BS excuses about the “bumper requirements”. I am not optomistic about this change, but sure as hell want it to happen - I am sick of being overcharged for autos, and not being able to purchase the vehicle I want, because it’s not available in Canada due to “bumper requirements”. We all know that Cannon does not care about Canadians, and nor does any government - because if they did - we would not be being price gouged, or limited to our choice in vehicles. I believe this site (thank you very much by the way) is public consultation enough - we are the public, and we want the bumper regulations changed - simple as that.

I believe they will delay making any changes easing restrictions as long as possible to
allow the automakers and others time to devise new stratagies to continue overcharging us.

    1. It is rumoured that Minister Jim Prentice is opposing any changes that would result in the auto makers not being able to extort the $5 Billion more that Canadians pay versus what Americans pay.
The more people who ask him if this rumour is true, the more likely Prentice will realize that the automakers have fewer votes than Canadian car buyers. His e-mail address is Minister.Industry@ic.gc.ca if you want to let him know what you think about his siding with the automanufacturers and opposing harmonization of vehicle safety and environmental standards.

    2. The environmentalists have convinced Environment Canada that Canada must be establish the world standard for vehicle emissions abatement. So Canada will have different environmental standards than the U.S. and Environment Minister Baird will either unwittingly or knowingly assisted the auto makers in maintaining their ability to charge Canadians more than Americans for cars. If you want to tell Environment Minister Baird that you demand harmonization of motor vehicle emission standards with the U.S., his e-mail address is John.Baird@ec.gc.ca

    3. As for Minister Cannon, his failure to harmonize motor vehicle safety standards with the U.S. speaks for itself. If you want motor vehicle safety standards to be harmonized with the U.S., let Minister Cannon know. His e-mail address is mintc@tc.gc.ca

    4. BILL 15 THE CLIMATE CHANGE AND EMISSIONS REDUCTIONS ACT has received First Reading in the Manitoba Legislature. Premier Gary Doer has elected to adopt California Emission Standards for a population density that is quite different than California. This Bill will be an impediment to free trade and cost Manitobans for the adminsitrative bureaucracy that is to be set is and for the changes that Manitobans will be required to make to their vehicles. If you want to request Premier Doer to reconsider the legislation, his e-mail address is premier@leg.gov.mb.ca

My expectation is that Canadians will continue to pay $5 Billion annually more than Americans for motor vehicles. http://www.ataleoftwopricess.com reveals this travesty. Canadians are a bunch of apathetic sheep who allow their politicians to stay in office notwithstanding that the politicians do not act in the best interests of Canadians.

IIHS warns Canada against merging bumper standards with U.S. see http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/25/iihs-warns-canada-against-merging-bumper- standards-with-u-s/

  6. Robert Lamb says:

But also look at the comments. The IIHS seems to be run out of Virginia… they seem to be a bunch of carpet baggers… and if they feel so strongly that the Law shouldn’t change, what have they done in the last few years to get Washington to raise theirs. Right now European and US bumper laws are Harmonized, why would you not want Canada to join the party!….?????
