Our message to the APA, Please put the “P” back into “APA”

Today, Carswithoutborders completed a lengthy study into some of the comments reported on the APA (Automobile Protection Association) website and often quoted  by their spoksman George Iny.

While we realize that the APA appears to want to help the Canadian Automobile Consumer, many of their recent statements just lead to confusion.  It is bad enough that we get the run around from Candian Car Dealers and Manufacturers as well as the RIV and Transportation Canada.  Now we have to plough thru this “fog” of inaccuraccies reported by the APA.

Here is the text of our e-mail message and the report:

“George Iny and Gentlemen/Ladies , many of our members are very concerned with the positions you are taking with regard to importing vehicles from the U.S. to Canada.

Please find attached our replies and questions to some of the inaccurate statements that have been reported on your web site or picked up on various newscast interviews with George Iny.

The hard working Canadian Automobile Consumer is being confused by the dealers and Transport Canada.  Maybe, despite your best intentions, your comments are adding to this confusion.

We would like to discuss with you, your mandate.  We saw the show on W5 were you investigated car dealers.  Great work!

We are trying to understand why you do not appear to be treating the importation issue with the same accuracy and professionalism.

We would like to sit down with you and your board and understand where and how you can and have helped the Canadian Automobile Consumer.

Robert, your letter is inciteful. I have often questioned the APA’s true allegiance. Thank you for taking the time to bring these inconsistencies and inaccuracies to the fore.

  2. Robert Lamb says:

Thank-you, but this could not have been done without the hard work and dedication of one of our members in Manitoba.

There is strong lien betwen the APA and the Quebec Automobile dealer’s Association so do not expect any help
from this organisation to make pressure on manufacturers as far as automobiles prices in Canada are concerned.Their aurguments seem fit to protect the market and it is always easier to send a message through a party who is supposed to be protecting the consumers with the money coming from the govermental Consumer Protection Office.
