Is this ever interesting. Auto manufacturers tried to use the
same lame excuses back when they were trying to prevent Canadian
cars from going to the US!(see quote below from the article) How friggin stupid do they think we
are?
“Manufacturers engage in relentless propaganda campaigns
to arouse additional consumer fears about
Canadian cars. Manufacturers advise consumers that
Canadian vehicles are not built for the United States
market and that they cannot guarantee compliance
with safety and emissions standards. They also warn
consumers about warranty restrictions and refer to
the sale of Canadian cars to Americans as an illegal
trade. It should be remembered that a number of
Japanese manufacturers, most notably Mitsubishi,
ran similar campaigns in the UK against ‘grey’
imports. The campaigns failed to stop the trade and
ultimately the manufacturers stopped making the
claims and began importing exactly the vehicles they
had previously described as unsuitable for British market”

How funny this whole mess occured in the first place. It all started out by a gentleman wanting to keep a promise to his daughter to buy her a car upon graduation I beleive. Due to the stuborness of the auto mfgs. to import a vehicle into Canada from the states, it could cost them “Millions” of dollarsin penalties and a reputation of misleading the Canadian public for many past years and future years. It also is showing that they control our government and that the government is there to protect the auto industry and not the Canadian people. I say “Wake up Mr. Harper and smell what the general Canadian public wants”. Roger

Crash Test Dummies:
I would suggest that now is an opportune time to harmonize with the USA as regards various testing in the the automotive industry.
We may not have the test equipment that the Americans have but we can help in other areas.
They use Crash Test Dummies for these tests.
We could supply the dummies, as we appear to have a surplus of dummies at the moment.

Lol at CY’s comment.
On a serious note, I really hope something good comes out of this, instead of more bureaucracy and non-sense answers from the auto industry.
