Honda Convinces Government to kill ECO- Rebate Program!

ecoaction-eng.jpg Thanks Honda, you are now making it more cost effective to buy a car in the U.S.  (remember the Feds would only apply the rebate if your car was purchased in Canada)

I wonder if Toyota is pissed!! They had the best qualifying cars!

Quote:

“Honda Canada, other manufacturers and environmental groups criticized the so called “feebate” program, charging it was poorly designed and would not effectively encourage consumers to choose energy-efficient cars”

Have a chuckle check out the T.C. website: nobody told them!

We wonder if the thousand or so folks they hired to run the program will be moved back over to the RIV or the Audit departments!    I phoned to find out, but was told the program will still run, but it will not be extended to 2009.

I guess this is a lesson for all reporters to check thei facts first,….right Canwest!  “abrupt termination” in paragraph 2?

Bob, it appears that no one informs TC of anything and they are not required to inform them.

It’s called the honour system and everyone is on it except the Canadian consumer.

I used to think that a Cannon was a Big Gun but now I know it’s just a big dud that is running out of ammunition.
    They Auto know better.

Many people state that Harper is doing as good a job as Bush in running our country and I agree.

I just went back and checked the prices for the Prius 2008. There is still about $8,000 difference between - Can-US but down to $6,000 when I consider the $2,000 rebate that they do not give to US car purchasers.

What is the status of Honda and Acura vehicles at the moment ? I see that they are no longer listed on the list of admissible vehicles and instead, it just says, “see explanations” , however I have not found any explanations. Also the Canwest story above, mentions that the government is providing a “250,000,000.00 aid package to auto manufacturers. What is that all about ???

  5. Robert Lamb says:

It appears to me that The RIV list says all models are admissible except for those that don’t meet standards outlined in the explainations section.

The $250M is another handout of the tax payers money, same as those to the forest industry. Wait to the Americans get wind of this and start putting up more barriers to free trade.

    Thank you Robert,
I think that the list plays tricks on me eyes, every time I look at it. I think that we need to find out more about the $250,000,000.00 gift from the government, to the auto manufacturers. This means that the duty and GST that we pay to the government, at the border, when we import a vehicle, goes straight into the hands of the manufacturers, every one of which is a foreign owned corporation. I wonder how much of that money goes to lobbyists and then from the lobbyists to Transport Canada officials.

  7. Christian says:

I want to know more about that aid to the manufacturers…handouts to corporations are unnacceptable. They’re causing their own problems by not being competitive in our market, if my small business is not doing well will I get a handout when the going gets tough.

Toyota is giving canadains $ 8000.00 off on some models,
    why dosen’t HONDA
