My email to Minister Cannon - ref. Mario’s Corvette.

    Dear Minister Cannon
I am writing to you on behalf of a CarsWithoutBorders member, Dr Mario Turanovic. I am aware that these are private matters and that you cannot discuss private matters with other Canadians however, CarsWithoutBorders has been asked to assist in this file. We are very concerned with the lack of timely action by the respective departments under your control.

In November and December, Transport Canada under your direction solved a serious harm that was being done to several thousand Canadians that had followed all the rules and had imported an automobile from the USA. We are very grateful for your leadership at that time. One grave case still remains unsolved after 6 months.

Please do the right thing now and instruct your officials to get Mario’s car on the road. You will notice in the emails below that according to Transport Canada - Mario could get his bumpers changed to confirm to Canadian standards however the RIV refuses to give the form 2 because the car manufacturer GM refuses to add this vehicle on the admissible list. Quite frankly it looks like GM is running the RIV and therefore the government. This is not the law and this needs to be fixed. Minister Cannon, we are currently posting Mario’s story and we strongly beleive that
the Canadian voters expect this type of injustice to be solved promptly and diligently.

    Thanks for your prompt attention.

    Hon. Lawrence Cannon,
    Minister of Transport
    Transport Canada

    Sir,

You and your officials are key players in a major conspiracy to control market access, manipulate prices and deceive the public. You can continue to be a part of this activity, or you can take immediate action to put an end to it. In the meantime, efforts are underway to investigate, expose and prosecute those responsible. In very plain language, the manufacturers are doing everything possible, to stop individuals and independent auto dealers from importing and exporting and you and your officials are helping them to do it. Some of this activity is illegal and subject to criminal charges. You may soon be caught up in such charges. The details of this can easily be found on the pages of http://www.carswithoutborders.com and in the records of the manufacturers and of your ministry. Should you make the wise decision to do the right thing and resolve this matter, I shall be more than pleased to assist you to do so. I have forty years experience, manufacturing, exporting and importing vehicles. Alternatively, if you carry on, as you are doing and permit the current situation to continue, I and others shall make every effort to use whatever legal means available to stop you. The unsavoury arrangement between you, your staff, your ministry and the manufacturers must end.

One thing that you can do, to make a start in mitigating your culpability.

Grant approval to Dr. Mario Turanovic to register his car. He needs to install exactly four parts to bring his bumpers into conformity with your regulations. Dr. Turanovic has the part numbers, I have the part numbers, the part numbers are public knowledge. I can supply the parts, others can supply the parts, the parts are commonly available to the public. There is no valid excuse for you to deny Dr. Turanovic his approval. I urge you to act swiftly.

Now that I have started to write to you, I intend to continue with more letters. You have done many things to severely affected my ability to conduct my business and to trade with my customers and I am not prepared to suffer any more of it.

Bravo!! Your letters are excellent and have inspired me to send a letter of support to Transport Canada on the corvette owner’s behalf. I must submit that my 2008 Chev Silverado with the immobilizer and all the paperwork purchased in October, 2007 did not receive Form 2 till the middle of January, 2008 and I am sure there are many more that received theirs later than December. Keep up the good work!

  4. Cy says:

Maybe it’s time to call on the assistance of the Ombudsman, Mr Andre Marin.

He may be able to help under the Freedom of Information Act.

It would be interesting the see the correspondence that occured among RIV, Car Manufacturers and Transport Canada, regarding auto imports over the past years.

Question: do they use a shredder or just expel it from a Cannon?

  5. andrew timmis says:

Dale, Thank you so much for offering to write a letter in support of Mario Turanovic’s efforts to register his Corvette. Please, everyone, try to help Mario. The more letters the better.

Cy, I sure smiled when I read your comment !!!

I really think we need to help Mario. I am thinking about how I felt when my Toyota was stuck in Massena and then with Bob’s Civic in his garage. Do we remember - it was just about 2 months ago - the joy of getting those cars on the road. Do you remember the dispair before that joy. Let’s all help Mario. He followed the rules. He did just like us. We were about 3,000 who all followed the rules. Hey! everyone we have one more to go - let’s win this one. Please write to Minister Cannon.

  7. CAD says:

    Dear Minister Cannon,

As a member of carswithoutborders.com, I am amazed that you have allowed yourself and your ministry to be tricked and manipulated by General Motors. Surely, you can see that GM is pulling the wool over your eyes by dictating to you that this Corvette is not admissable, even though the bumpers swapped out are the identical ones used in Corvettes made for the Canadian market.

Please release Mr. Mario Turanovic and his vehicle as a hostage in this silly game where we all know the real reason behind GM’s motive and anyone with an ounce of common sense can see that the swapping the bumpers will make the vehicle admissable to Canada.

I don’t recall seeing GM on the ballet the last time I voted in the Federal Election.

    Please do the right thing.

  8. Mario Turanovic says:

Dear Serge, Bob, Cy, Andrew, Curtis, Don, and All Others,

Firstly, let me thank you all for of your kind and encouraging words, emails and letters of support. I never realized that there are so many truly “genuine” people out there - I will be always grateful to you. I am now, more that ever, sure that if we keep up the pressure on TC officials and Minister Cannon we will eventually prevail. I never realized till now as how much corporate greed and lack of government regulatory control really does exist in this country of ours. If there is already this much in just this one isolated incident makes one really wonder about the overall state of affairs - absolutely horrifying!!

One unusual thing in this whole disaster is that we have never heard from the real criminals yet - General Motors of Canada (GMC). They have managed to stay clear of all this and used their puppets (TC & RIV) to take the heat of our attacks. It would sure be nice if we could get all of the personal email addresses of all those in positions of control at GMC and start blasting them with daily emails.

I am even willing to bet if Minister Cannon personally called GMC’s chairman of the board and told him to stop all of their BS or face the wrath of the Federal Government things would probably change quickly. This is of course in a “perfect world” but in our “real world” Minister Cannon’s cojones are probably in the back pocket of GMC’s board chairman and we all know that a man without his cojones might as well pack up his things and go home!!

It is amazing as to how deep GMC’s influence and control penetrates. Even newspapers and the visual media do not want to report on this in fear of losing GMC’s advertising revenue stream. If anybody knows of an honest newsperson out there, who is not afraid of the repercussions of going against GMC and the Canadian automobile manufacturers, who’d be willing to expose this affair to the whole of the Canadian population - would probably end up getting some kind of news award.

Every time I walk into my garage and see my Corvette parked there “sans plates” my blood starts to boil, because it keeps on reminding me of how asinine this whole issue around a simple legal importation of an easily modifiable U.S. vehicle has become.

I can only hope that once we win this battle NOBODY will have to go through this again.

Once again I would like to thank you all for your continuing support - it inspires me to keep up the fight!!

    May God bless you all,
    Mario

  9. A. Craig says:

What amazes me is the lack of common sense exhibited by so many people in this matter.

Not only will my next car be from a manufacturer who has been reasonable through
this whole process (even if I elect to purchase the car in Canada), but I recently
chose to have a GM vehicle serviced by an independant (even though the car is only
3 years old) to make a point. I realize that it isn’t the dealership that calls the shots
but if enough of them complained about the lost service revenue to GMAC then things
    would change pretty quickly.
