Our Reply to regulation 215

Tag: Lawrence Cannon, Reg 215 BumpersRobert Lamb @ 9:27 am

Please find our reply to the request from Transportation Canada to participate in the Consultation.

cwb-comment-on-canadian-bumper-regulations.pdf

Over the next couple of days add your comments or name to the end of the letter, we will be sending it out On December 28th at 3:00 P.M.

One final thought and maybe we should add it to our letter:

The cost of a Tire Pressure Monitoring system for my snow tires and wheels is around $250.00.  The U.S. Mandated the use of these systems in all new cars as of September 1st, 2007.

Three  issues:

  • Does anyone mention this extra cost added to the U.S. cars when comparing prices in the U.S. and Canada?
  • This U.S. regulation appears to prevent blowouts and possibly  save lives. It also ensures that  cars operate more efficiently.  Cars with well maintained tires use  less gas and don’t wear out as fast!
  • Quebec just implemented legislation to mandate snow tires in the winter, they say it will save lives.
    What do you folks think?

Globe and Mail wakes up!

Tag: Consumers, Media, Success StoriesRobert Lamb @ 10:31 am

Check this article out.  They didn’t have to hire a consulting firm to tell them what they already knew!  They just had to read our web site!  Wonder where the APA and the CAA stand on this?  Are they going to wake up too!

Wonder where this consulting firm got all its info… www.carswithoutborders.com

Wonder who commissioned the study?

Comments welcome - as we celebrate the holidays

Tag: Consumers, Our Teamsergelbergeron @ 10:34 pm

We are very happy to see all the owners getting their plates finally.  And today’s new RIV list seems to have a lot more admissible vehicles finally.

We have seen many comments around lawsuit - lawyers etc.  This has merit but Bob & I prefer the approach of rallying the people and pushing the politicians into action with  media help.  So a lawsuit is not an avenue that we are ready to explore at this time.

On the recall letters - it is very disturbing to see the outrageous price for a simple letter that takes 5 minutes - but you need to consider that you may be saving $5-10-15,000 on your purchase - so don’t hold back your purchase for this.  Maybe you can try to get the US dealer to get this for you as a sale’s condition.

We appreciate all your comments - please keep them nice, clean and concise.  We are not used to moderating web sites, but we are interested in good discussions on how to proceed in the next few weeks with the goals of having fair pricing in Canada.   And to get fair pricing we need to keep that US border open.

You may not see too much activity from our part in the next few days as we will try to get some R&R.   Seasons Greetings to all  from Bob and Serge.

Serge’s Reply on Edmonds

Tag: Consumers, Letters, Our Team, Success Stories, Words of ThanksRobert Lamb @ 7:47 pm
  •  We should note a thank-you to all who have written in and posted on the site today!!   Our priority is to help you all get your plates before the Holidays, then we plan to rest and start up again after December 27th. Look forward to a post asking for your input on the future of CWB.

  • This was posted on Edmonds this evening and following is a great reply from Serge.

  • “Hey everybody! This was on the CBC as a lead news story. The people who worked on this posted on this thread. Can we stop the side-topic MB/BMW discussion long enough to offer our congratulations to those who did the work? How many times has a BB thread led to an act of Parliament?

Re: New Import Regulation Effective Dec 19th [subahonda] by sergelbergeron

I’ve never seen 5 smilie cars. Subahonda.

The power of the people with the internet. In mid-October I buy a car and closely following this site - I learned like everybody else. But then the RIV changes the lists, compliance letters are not available by the car companies and the whole experience becomes very messy. In all parts of the country, this is secretly happening. The border is being closed. We all get angry, I do several posts and so do many others - still many are  thinking what mistake they did by buying in the US.  But by the power of the internet, I connect with Bob Lamb, the guy from the Montreal Gazette. We receive jointly 10-15-20 private e-mails - there appears to be hundred of people in trouble. Our first meeting is Nov. 18 in Mtl - we ask for help on this site Edmunds. We are looking for volunteers. 2 days later, we have a new site www.carswithoutborders.com dedicated to fighting for consumers. The same day the G&M and then the CBC National on National TV. We ask  Canadians to post their cases and then we start a massive campaign - write - write all across Canada. We have a super media team, an immobilizer team, a web team (all volunteers) Nov 30th, TC comes out with the new rules and on Dec. 19 the new rules take effect.  This is 31 days after the first meeting.

The power of the people getting together  is the new weapon. The internet; Edmunds, EBay, Internet shopping and CarsWithoutBorders…all new tools (or weapons) to benefit consumers in this modern age. The modern electronic age has just begun. We don’t know where it will end , but please Car Companies, Governments, no more lying, no more cheating, no more coverups - the world is a lot smaller and a lot more informed and ready for the battle.

It is quite a story and man - success sure feels good. Thanks to all who signed the petition on the site, who called their MP, Cannon, etc. Those who volunteered their personal time and a great thanks to Robert Lamb, a true friend and finally the Montreal reporter Jan from the Mtl Gazette who got us all started. It’s quite a ride.
