The guy certainly has guts.
A writer and editor were fired from our local paper a few months back after they printed an article on importing cars and an auto industry exec complained to the publisher.

I recently paid on Nov 22 2007 the amount of $569.00 for a Recall Clearance Letter from your BMW in Laval. For some unknown reason it is dated on Nov 25 2007….but I only received it on December 24 2007.
I forwarded this same letter to the Registrar of Imported Vehicles and they claim they cannot accept it because they did not receive the same letter from you confirming that this letter originates from you!!
Could you please call the RIV at 1-888-848-8240 so that they can send me the form 2 needed to register my car.
Thank you

Toyota Canada is giving a $1000 incentive on the 08 Sienna which is no where near the saving of importing from the US. You can save at least $10,000 by buying from the States for the same van.

Well I went to a different CT and passed the inspection. Now I am having trouble registering the vehicle as when I crossed the border the word “inadmissible” was written across the form 1. The two registry places I went to will not accept it.

Shelly:
Registration is a Provincial process so it is up to your Provincial department/ministry to know the rules. I had no problem registering my car in Ontario even though it had Inadmissible on my Form 1. The key thing is that your RIV inspection service (i.e. Can. Tire) declares the vehicle as PASS, and that is why you show your Form 2 to your Provincial registration authority. Remember that the job of the RIV inspection is to determine what is required to make a vehicle admissible (eg. Daytime Lights). You get that done and you get your vehicle passed or Admissible. If your registration guys still do not get it, contact your MPP and run through all the documentation with them. Tell us what Prov. you are in and I’m sure others who have succeeded will help out.

Shelly,
Glad the advice worked for you but it is yet another blatant example of how arbritray the process is
