We need your input!

Tag: Consumers, Our TeamRobert Lamb @ 8:45 pm

We are thinking of modifiying the site and would like your suggestions.

  • There is a lot of good information on this site but sometimes it is tough to keep track.  Some people have recommended that we add on a Forum.  The Forum would require registration and cover topics as required.  One topic could be Warranties (monitored by members of the warranty team) , another recall letters, or we could classify topics as Transport Canada, Auto makers… etc..   what topics would you like covered, or should we just have one.
  • If we do have a forum, then we would let current comments expire after 3 days, and refer the visitor to the Forum.
  • We guess the skys is the limit, so if you have some ideas please let us know below in the comment section or e-mail us at carswithoutborders@hotmail.com .

RIV is looking for recall clearance letters for all imported vehicles. For example I will be purchasing a 2008 Honda Pilot next month, and I would be interested to find out if RIV already has a recall clearance letter of file for this particular make/model. I would think that if 1,000 people were to purchase this particular make/model that they (RIV) would only need one copy on file for that particular make/model, as opposed to having every one that purchased that make/model chase down the dealer or manufacturer for this letter. I brought up a 2007 pre September 2007 Honda CRV from Montana, and saved $13,000. Same vehicle here in Alberta priced out at $42,000. CW/OB should develop a running list of vehicles that were imported from US and list make/model etc…for those vehicle “types: so that people don’t spend excessive time and/or money chasing down the recall clearance letter that RIV may already have on file.

I use forums all the time and from my experience with using these forums
I feel there is no better way to get information organized and people
to simpley chime in with information. Many of the forums I have used are
all the same format with moderators. Example cherokeesrt8.com

    HCJV,

The recall letter is specific to a particular VIN and not the make/model of the
vehicle. As a result, you need one for every car imported.

I think forums would be a great idea. Right now the website is a bit cumbersome and forums would be an easy way to organize and have more input from the members.

Best of luck and thanks for your hard work. In January I will be hopefully buying and importing an 08 toyota….

I also agree that a forums section would help because of how your site has grown. I believe that it has become the Internet hub for this “Canadians vs big car companies anti-competitive behaviour via our own government’s help” issue. It will continue to grow as long as you keep fighting the good fight. Forums will help organize comments on the various topics and reduce duplication. Without forums it may become unmanageable and far less efficient than it could be.

I suggest that you have a mechanism on the website such as that on CARP…which allows the user to select a member of parliament or other recipient from a list prepared by CWB….and has space for the sender to create an e-mail. Suggested wording could appear on the form which wording could be used or deleted by the sender.

    See http://www.carp.ca/evoice/
for an example of what I mean.

Wow. Just came across this site whilst trashing some old papers. I read about the CWB when I went back to read an article on importing (which I’m obviously considering). This has been a great resource - even with the little bits of intel avail.

A forum is a must. You will be surprised @ the amount of interest, traffic and views this will generate. Though I do no expect them to input, you know that CDN Auto reps will be keeping a close eye on this (if they have not been already), as the painful verities are exposed: They made over like fat cats for many years w/ no confrontation. Now, they are being tested and are forced to suddenly create new rules in the face of shrinking revenues (like not honoring warranties).

    Forum all the way.
