Great article. Hopefully this will wake up automakers in North America.

Wish our government follows up with the European Commission

Looks like an old article though (although the paper dateline says 2007, the article
says it was published in 1998? or am I reading that incorrectly?). Obviously, if it indeed
was published 9 years ago, the auto makers weren’t listening on this side of the pond or weren’t
too overly concerned with the anti-trust issue outside of the EU. Although I’m not up on the NAFTA
info, I’m guessing the wording and intent isn’t as strong as what they have implemented in the European
    Union.

As I’ve said before, there would be a whole lot of hollering going on in the US if Canadian retailers refused to sell products to Americans and I hope there will be a similar commotion going on in Canada given the vehicle manufacturer’s directive to their dealers. Where should restricted trade stop and how do these actions on the part of Vehicle Manufacturers contravene the principles of Free Trade? I am not a lawyer, so I can’t comment on the legal issues surrounding the rights of individuals but it seems to me, there are a number of rights that are being trampled here. I know others have said Canadians have no rights in the US, but as a Canadian business man, I would be reluctant to refuse to sell the services I offer in Canada to all Canadians and to citizens of other countries as I would not wish to be found guilty of discrimination.

Everyone should click to recommend the article (found at bottom of article). It will push it up on the G&M site.

Meanwhile, Canadian anti-trust authorities are investigating… candy companies.
