TC Announcement Today! Update 14:22 P.M.

Update :  14:22  Natasha called me just a few minutes ago, she told me she was sending me my form2. She also mentioned that the RIV was starting to clear everyone and that is should be done over the next day or so.  Stay tuned!

14:00 Jeff called, He talked with Andrew  W. at T.C., he says the RIV was given the green light last night to go ahead and release the cars.  He indicated that those without an immobilizer would still require the Manufacterer’s  approval of an after market solution, or maybe they would provide one.  - we will need to follow-up-

  •  We are looking at it now.  I have made calls to Dan Davis and Kash and Pierre Tremblay for clarification.  We are not sure what it means for those that purchased vehicles without the anti-theft device.  Check-out the wording on the 8th Paragraph concerning Provincial jurisdictions??
  •  I called the RIV, she told me everything is on hold, all supervisors were in a meeting. She told me to call back later today. I expect, if they were doing their homework,  we might all have a chance to obtain our plates before Christmas, but then again who knows?  Let us see if they can restore some faith in their organization.
  • Great work everyone.  Thank-you so much.  This is a real team victory!  We will try and keep everyone informed, and please let us know when you receive your form 2.
  • Hopefully this is the end of the beginning!

Regardless of how this immediate situation turns out, we should demand to see the minutes from the manufacturers meetings with our gov’t officials. The big issue here is to break the hold the manufacturers (with tacit or active support by our gov’t) have on our importation process. Multinationals and the gov’t rammed free trade down our throats, it’s about time they have to live with its consequences when it finally works to the consumer’s advantage.

The Transport Canada announcement also indicates the the final adoption of the new reguslations will be printed in the Canada Gazette on Dec 26/07. I assume we will not be able to do anything with our vehicles until that date. I’ll wait until Robert gets some clarification. It won’t effect me as I have made plans to go to the US to take possession of my vehicle in January, but I hope for the sake of all of you that have unregistered vehicles on hold here in Canada that they allow you to do something before then. Best wishes to everyone for the holiday season.

    Robert,
You may also want to ask if the wording of the new regulations to be printed in the Gazette on Dec 26/07 is exactly as originally printed in the proposed amendments on Nov 30/07. If not, what will be the final wording in the amended regulations to be published on Dec 26/07?

    Thanks for all your help.

Yes, thank you Robert and Serge and everyone else!

Ed, the law comes into effect once it is registered not when it’s published in the Canada Gazette. From Robert’s recent update it sounds like the law has already been registered and RIV has already been given the green light to release the Form 2’s. The publication of the amendment in the Canada Gazette Part 2 will provide us with the exact wording of the amendment to see if anything has changed, particulary in regard to those vehicles that are not equipped with an electronic immobilizer.

This is great news for many and I sincerely hope that all of you can get your plates before XMas.

Kudos to everyone who have been relentless in your efforts to seeing that this injustice be righted. Let us savour this moment of success and then re-energize to see to it that all of the other deceitful anti-trade practices are eliminated so that ultimately we won’t need to go to another country to buy a car at a fair price.

Robert, congratulations on the release of your Form 2. You have put in an inordinate amount of effort with Serge and company into this campaign and none are more deserving than you. I want to see you post pictures of your daughter on CWB when she finally gets to drive her new car legally on our streets. What a great Chrismas gift.

Wishing you all great holidays and a Happy New Year.
